BlueEdge HSA Plan at a Glance
BlueEdge HSA is HSA-eligible. Health savings accounts (HSAs) are savings accounts that allow you to contribute tax-deductible, pre-tax money to pay for medical expenses. The money in the account can only be used for qualifying medical expenses. For example, it can be used for alternative medicine like acupuncture, which a lot of insurances don’t cover. If the money is used for a non-qualifying medical expense, you’ll have to pay a penalty tax of 20%. The money accumulates tax-deferred interest even if it’s not used, and once you turn 65, you can use the money as you wish without penalty.
You can use our instant quote system to get the current rates. Rates are based on age, health status, type of product and requested deductible.
BCBS of TX PPO Network
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas has an extensive network, working with the majority of the health care providers and hospitals in the state. To see a list of doctors and hospitals, visit the BCBS of TX Provider Finder’s website and choose the “PPO” plan. You can see doctors outside of your network, but you’ll pay more out-of-pocket. Certain tests or services may require pre-authorization, but you’ll never need to get pre-authorization to see a specialist or mental health care provider, or visit a hospital.
Coverage can go into effect as early as the day your application is approved, especially if you apply online; you can pick an effective date starting the day you sign up and up to 60 days after. Your billing will begin on that effective date. If you need your coverage to kick in by a certain date, you should apply ahead of time to make sure your coverage takes effect in time, ideally a few weeks in advance.
Your health savings account is separate from your health insurance, and you may use any approved bank or trustee as your HSA administrator. We recommend you choose one from our HSA administrator page, where you can compare rates and features.
